Madcap

Madcap started DJing eighteen years ago when he was eleven years of age, mixing up house & breakbeat – more generally referred to as ‘Old Skool Rave’ nowadays. Playing out at friends’ house parties, local sports halls and clubs over the coming years started his confidence on the decks and also gave Madcap a reason to start producing demo mixes to give out.

Being so young was a stumbling block but this changed when securing a job at local record shop Buzz Records, which was associated with DJ Pulse and the influential Creative Wax label. Meeting with punters and promoters alike, Madcap soon found himself being booked up & down the UK for sets.

At the end of 1994 Madcap started putting on events in Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire (because there wasn’t much on offer for the younger generation at the time in this area) featuring local DJs & MCs. This was a good experience because it gained a following for him as well as the events themselves. Madcap went on to promote events under the names Intensity 96-2001 (later alongside Wilsh), Elevate 2000-2002, Essence 2002 (alongside Wilsh), Storm 2003-2004 & Synthesis at the Rhythm Factory, London back in August & October ’08. All the events were about good vibes and good music along with pushing DJs in the local area.

Madcap grew up listening to DJ’s such as Hype, Ratty, Sy, Slipmatt, Carl Cox & LTJ Bukem, as well as more recent influences like Marky.

One particular highlight of Madcap’s DJing career so far was winning the Movement / Technics DJ Competition in 2002, as featured in DJ Magazine. The prize was a main room set at Movement’s’ weekly event at Bar Rumba, London – along with two Technics Decks & Mixer. Other notable features on Madcap are his appearance in IDJ Magazine January 2004, winning “Mix Tape of the Month” and also coming 4th place in the Gemini DJ Competition at The Plaza Awards, Earls Court in 2003.

In the last few years Madcap has been very busy in the studio and is currently working with DJ Pulse on new tunes with the intention of re-launching Creative Wax. He has just started a DnB digital label called ‘Uncertified Music’ (with Wilsh & Ascension). More recently Madcap has been heavly influenced by the new J-Tek sound, & has made quite a few tracks, finding working with the 145bpm speed is as exciting as when the Jungle Tekno originally sound hit the scene back in 1993 he was very much into it despite being only thirteen years old at the time.

Other recent projects & news include plans for Nookie to remix My Soul & release it on Phuzion. He featured in the August 2007 ‘Orange Issue’ of Knowledge magazine, in the Essence of Chi article & a half page interview in the November 2007 issue. He has also been working with Old Skool Legends DJ Pilgrm & Vinyl Junkie writing fresh new J-Tek tracks.

He has had the pleasure of playing at events such as Movement, Desire, Essence of Chi, London ZU, Switch (MoS), Drive By, Technicality, Moondance, Cloud 9, Refresh, Drum Club, Overload, Epidemik, Bar Knowledge, Helter Skelter, Evolution & Kinetic, Uncertified, Drum Project, Pitch Control, Synthesis, Grind House (Edinburgh), Lowdown & Monthly residency in local Bar the Black Boy.

All of this brings us to the present time with Madcap getting regular bookings and pushing himself to the fullest of his abilities.
